Work History
Freelance Designer & Copywriter: February 2004 - Present
Worked on graphic design (logos, ads, posters, etc.) and copywriting projects for various clients.
Examples:
Earthbound Trading Company- Wrote product descriptions for their website as well as copy for their merchandising handbook and a comprehensive product guide. Also created layout designs for their handbook and product guide.
The Dallas Poetry Slam- Designed their logo and all their promotional materials, brochures, posters and ads that ran in local publications.
Communications Director: February 2006 - November 2011:
Premier Communities, Dallas, TX
Responsibilities included the production of two community newspapers and administration of both community websites. Was charged with task of overhauling original newsletters and developing into more extensive, full-sized 20-page community newspapers, changing the look and feel to meet the client’s vision. Designed mastheads and initial layout for both newspapers. Took bids and negotiated with printers.
Independently managed production and layout of monthly publications from concept to print as well as overseeing distribution. Photographed community events for inclusion in the newspapers and on websites.
Other design projects: Annual calendar card inserts, with a focus on visual appeal and clarity of content. Designed ads for some advertisers. Produced PowerPoint presentations for annual meetings.
Intern: July 2005 - August 2005: The Science Place, Dallas, TX
Duties included designing signage for lobby, educational materials and advertising, as well as writing copy for marketing emails and doing marketing research.
Other Accomplishments
My other creative endeavors have included writing and performing professionally as a spoken word artist and poet. I have performed in schools and have been a part of several slam poetry teams that have gone on to compete in national poetry competitions. As a member of the Dallas Poetry Slam, won 3rd place in the National Poetry Slam in St. Louis, 2004. |
